Panchkula:
Panchkula is
a planned city of Haryana. It is developed on outskirts of
Chandigarh amongst picturesque background of the Shivalik
hills and the Ghaggar River.
Panchkula
has been sub-divided into residential sectors, industrial
sectors, parks and areas for recreation, educational
institutions, markets, government and semi-government
offices.
The major
towns of Panchkula district are Pinjore, Kalka, Barwala,
Raipur Rani.
History:
The name Panchkula originated from the 5 irrigation canals (kuhals)
making it panch kuls of 5 canals that take water from the
Ghaggar in the uphill section. The important rivers or
streams of the district are Ghaggar, Sirsa nadi, Kaushalya
etc.
Geographical
Location:
Panchkula is
surrounded by Himachal Pradesh in the north and north east,
by district Ambala in the south, Punjab and U.T. of
Chandigarh in the west. Panchkula District share its border
with Chandigarh, Mohali district (Punjab), Ambala district
and Solan district (H.P.). Morni the only hill station in
Haryana also falls under this district.
Languages:
Hindi and Punjabi are the most spoken languages. English is
also prevalent.
