Pantograph:

It is a mechanism which is used trace a path to an enlarged or reduced scale. It is an example of four bar kinematic chain. It consists of a four links joined in such a way to form a parallelogram ABCD in which AB=CD and AD=BC. In figure, OAE always remains in straight line. Pantograph consists of four turning pair.

Applications of pantograph:

  1. It is used to guide the cutting tools.
  2. It is used for the reproduction of maps and plans on enlarged or reduced scale.
  3. A modified pantograph is used to collect the electric power at the top of an electric locomotive.
